Murfreesboro’s New Webb Grove AME Church and Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in collaboration with the Nashville Black Music Association and Nashville Gospel and Sacred Music Coalition present SUMMER JUBILEE: EXPLORING MUSIC OF THE BLACK CHURCH.
Delve into the rich array of song that African American houses of worship have adapted and created. Led by noted Black music practitioners, Patrick Dailey (international opera singer and Tennessee State University professor) and Byron Harvey (acclaimed recording artist and minister), musicians, enthusiasts, church choir members, educators, and more are invited to descend on Murfreesboro, TN for this unique, newly developed workshop and concert. For two evenings, participants will receive training in diverse vocal techniques, historical context of Black sacred music, and resources for future use. The finale concert will feature the W. Crimm Singers, The Marable Twins and Summer Jubilee Workshop Choir.

Middle Tennessee native and renowned countertenor, Patrick Dailey is an acclaimed operatic and concert artist, vocal educator, conductor, arts curator, researcher, and advocate for HBCUs, arts, and community. A product of Black institutions and arts organization leader, Dailey is held in high esteem for his research and teaching on African American and diasporic musical and cultural traditions. Byron Harvey, a Nashville native, is a gifted singer-songwriter celebrated for his powerful vocals and inspirational praise music. He earned a B.S. in Music from Tennessee State University and has released two independent albums. Byron leads the collective Byron Harvey and Team, emphasizing community and collaboration in his music. With performances alongside acclaimed artists and recognition such as being listed in the 2022 40 Under 40, Byron continues to inspire audiences with his uplifting voice and music.
